Stunning 12 Gauge Wire 15 Amp Breaker
The breaker protecting any situation where there are mixed sizes must protect the smallest capacity wire.
12 gauge wire 15 amp breaker. So any size circuit breaker of 20 amps or less will be ok. Should the circuit breaker fail to operate correctly that heater will draw more current than the wires can safely handle and could heat the wires to the point of melting the insulation around the wires and igniting surrounding materials. 12 gauge wire is nominally sized for 20 amps and 14 gauge is sized for 15 amps.
12 awg and 15 amp breaker is this just overkill good for that electrician. There is no problem using 12 awg wire on a circuit protected by a 15 ampere circuit breaker. Except that a 15a receptacle may be legitimately driven by a 20a circuit unless the only thing driven by that circuit is a single non duplex 15a receptacle.
My guess will be reduced voltage drop issues on that house. For 12 gauge wire 20 amps can safely be handled. It is actually not uncommon to use a larger size wire than specified especially on long runs.
Or anything else on the circuit tries to draw more than the 14 wire can handle the breaker will trip. Supercat jan 20 15 at 22 07. Because it has even less chance of overheating 12 gauge wire is also acceptable on a 15 amp circuit.
First 12 awg will not fit in the back stab holes that alone accounts for most voltage drop issues eliminate that back stabbing and most voltage drop issues go away. This is due to the fact that the larger wire will reduce voltage less at the load. I was referring to the 12gauge of course and using a 15 amp breaker so the 14 gauge would not be undersized but the 12 gauge would be oversized ecnerwal oct 3 14 at 0 07 ratchetfreak.
