Spectacular Ground Fault Outlet Wiring
A wiring diagram is a simplified standard photographic representation of an electrical circuit.
Ground fault outlet wiring. A ground fault is the occurrence of electricity taking an unintended path to the ground. It occurs when the electrical current escapes the insulated wires as a result of a damaged cord or faulty. Make a loop at the end of the copper wire with a pair of needle nose pliers.
This secures the wire onto the screw. It shows the components of the circuit as streamlined shapes and the power as well as signal connections in between the devices. This gfci wiring provides protection to a duplex receptacle outlet at the end of the series.
However it would be best to provide the power for an exterior gfci outlet from a separate circuit instead of tying into the bathroom circuit. The gfci outlet protects electrical wiring and receptacles from overheating and possible fire greatly minimizing the risk of shock injuries and fatal burns. Replace the outlet and put a label on it that reads no equipment ground this label is usually supplied with the outlet and it warns people against relying on the outlet for surge protection.
Take the black hot wire the identified black one with the yellow wire nut on it. Gfci also known as ground fault circuit interrupter is a protective device which automatically detects the ground faults and leakage current and provides personal protection against electrocution. Typically the outside gfci outlets of a home are on their own separate circuit.
It gets attached on the line side brass screw. Loosen the silver and brass terminal screws on the line side of the outlet. Gfci as an outlet receptacle combo or circuit breaker automatically cuts off the main power supply within millisecond against electric shock.
That outlet will get ground fault protection from the gfci. One ground fault circuit interrupter at the beginning of the circuit can be used in the same way to protect multiple subsequent wall outlets in a row as illustrated in the diagram below. Collection of ground fault receptacle wiring diagram.
